Terms of Use — Winmail Reader

Last updated: October 16, 2026

These Terms of Use govern your use of Winmail Reader - DAT, MSG, EML ("Winmail Reader"), an iOS app published by W4N9WE1 / Lababacy. On iOS, purchases are also subject to Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. By downloading or using Winmail Reader, you agree to these terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.

1. Using the App

Winmail Reader opens legacy email and document files — winmail.dat (TNEF), MSG, OFT, EML, MHT/MHTML, XPS, OXPS, MBOX, PST, OST and OLM — on your device. You agree to use the app only for files you have the right to open, and in compliance with applicable law and the rights of others.

2. Free Features and Pro

Free features. The free download includes reading every supported format in full, attachment lists, browsing archive folder trees with a preview of the newest message in each folder, the XPS reader, health-check diagnostics for files that will not open, and the recent-files list.

Pro. A one-time purchase unlocks the exit doors: exporting and converting messages (to PDF, EML, HTML, or TXT, and XPS to PDF), extracting, saving and sharing attachments, search inside mail, and full archive browsing.

Pro is offered as a one-time, non-consumable purchase. There is no subscription, no auto-renewal, no trial conversion, and no usage quotas. Prices are displayed in the app before you confirm a purchase and may vary by country, currency, and storefront.

3. Purchases, Restore, and Refunds

Payments are processed entirely by Apple; we do not receive or store your payment card details. RevenueCat acts as our service provider to load products, verify access, and restore the Pro entitlement; it does not receive your files.

You can restore Pro at any time using Restore Purchases in the app's settings, signed in with the Apple ID used for the original purchase. Family Sharing is supported where available on the App Store. Purchases and refund requests are handled by Apple under Apple's policies; a refund or revocation may remove access to Pro.

4. Your Files and Content

You retain all rights to the files you open with Winmail Reader. The app claims no ownership of your files or of anything you export. Originals are opened read-only and never modified; decoded copies and exports are created inside the app's sandbox and belong to you. There is no server that stores your files — nothing is uploaded.

5. Availability and Changes

We may update, modify, or discontinue features of the app over time, including as new file-format variants emerge or legacy formats change. If a purchase is retired, entitlement you already bought is honored for the features it covered to the extent practical.

6. Decoding Disclaimer

Legacy mail formats such as TNEF (winmail.dat), MSG, PST, OST and OLM are complex, closed, and imperfectly documented. Winmail Reader decodes them on a best-effort basis: we do not guarantee that every file can be opened or that decoding is error-free. Damaged, password-protected, encrypted, or otherwise protected files may fail to decode. When decoding fails, the app's health check gives an explainable diagnosis (what the file really is, and what to do next) instead of a silent failure. Keep your own backups of important originals.

7. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability

The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by law. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, W4N9WE1 / Lababacy is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for data loss arising from use of the app — including reliance on decoded output for legally or business-critical purposes. Please verify important converted documents before use.

8. App Stores

Your use of the app on iOS is also governed by Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. Apple is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the app or its content.

9. Privacy

Our handling of data — including on-device decoding, ads, purchases, and crash reports — is described in the Privacy Policy.
